In recent studies, we analyzed and identified the most expensive ZIP codes in a number of southern U.S. states, such as Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, among others. For this article, we wanted to breakdown the most expensive ZIP codes in Alabama. Read on to find out the most expensive ZIP codes in Alabama in 2025, based on the latest data from Zillow’s home value index.

The Most Expensive ZIP Codes in Alabama

In order to identify the most expensive ZIP codes in each state, we turned to data from Zillow’s home value index, as well as the Census Bureau’s 2023 American Community Survey. ZIP codes can be very revealing, as conditions in them can be vastly different than, say, the city within which they lie. The Zillow home value index tracks (as of February 2025) the home values of 510 ZIP codes in Alabama. As part of our analysis, we took into consideration the latest monthly home values Zillow has — February 2025 — as well as the average of 12 months of median home values from March 2024 to February 2025.

The Top 5 Most Expensive ZIP Codes in Alabama

ZIP code 35651 is the most expensive one in Alabama. This ZIP code is centered on Mount Hope, which is south of the Tennessee River, between Russellville and Moulton. More than a fifth of households earn at least $200,000 a year. The median household income is $75,938, while the average household income is $107,597. Home values here seem to be out of proportion considering the level of income. The median home value in February 2025 was $825,345, which is up 44.5% from February 2020’s $571,022.

The second most expensive ZIP code — 35223 — is centered on the Birmingham suburb of Mountain Brook. This town is one of the wealthiest in the state. Incomes here are quite high, both for the state and nationally. The median household income is $155,079, while the average household income is $245,240. Home values appreciated a good deal over the last five years. In February 2020, the median home value was $382,381, before rising by 40.3%, to reach $536,496 by February 2025.

The No. 3 most expensive ZIP code in Alabama — 35007 — includes the city of Alabaster and communities like Elliotsville, Siluria, and Saginaw. This ZIP code is due south of Birmingham. Incomes here are higher than the state average, but not exorbitant. The median household income is $86,994, and the mean household income is $103,761. More than two-fifths of households earn $100,000 or more. Home values grew noticeably over the last five years, yet not nearly as much as some other expensive ZIP codes in the state. From $395,085 in February 2020, the median home value rose by 34%, coming in just below $530,000 by February 2025.

The fourth most expensive ZIP code is east of Huntsville and covers Brownsboro. This ZIP code — 35741 — includes tons of beautiful suburban homes. Just under a third of households earn $200,000 or more a year. The median household income here is $93,750, while the average household income is $174,223. Home value appreciation in ZIP code 35741 was comparable to the No. 3 ZIP code: 32.3% over five years, from $369,095 in February 2020 to $488,385 in February 2025.
