Lala Kent Talks About Moving To The Valley

Lala Kent, best known for Vanderpump Rules has been called many things—but a devoted mother of two is what she is most proud of. A visit to her Sherman Oaks, California home in the San Fernando Valley (yes, The Valley) reveals a side of her that the public rarely sees. Originally from Utah, the most surprising thing about Kent is that she has more in common with the suburban moms who follow her than a typical Bravolebrity, albeit with a fabulous house in the valley.

Purchased for over $3 million and built in 1947, Kent’s home is a practical retreat that blends a modern farmhouse exterior with a fresh, contemporary interior. Spanning 4103 square feet, it features five bedrooms and 3 and a half bathrooms in the main house, where she lives with her mother Lisa, and daughters, Ocean and Sosa. Her brother, Easton, and a roommate reside in a guest house on the property.

Here’s an inside look at Kent’s home—and the unexpectedly down-to-earth side of this reality star.

Moving To The Valley

While many are under the impression that Kent moved to the Valley to be part of the spinoff series (she does appear in several episodes this season and the infamous trailer), she confesses she chose this location because it was what she could afford. “People think I moved to the Valley to be on The Valley,” Kent says. “You have to have such a large budget to be anywhere else in Los Angeles County and still be able to commute over the hill into the city!”

However, she reveals that she ended up loving the ‘burbs. “I’m pretty obsessed with it over here. Now, every time I cross over, I tell myself, ‘You’re going to get back.’ It’s relaxing.”

Prior to this move, Kent lived in a very large apartment complex near West Hollywood, so she was grateful and happy to find a quiet retreat.

When she first saw the home, she knew it was ‘the one’. “The house was renovated, not a teardown—they kept some walls, but everything else is brand new besides the structure,” Kent tells me. “The moment I walked in, after seeing so many homes, something about this one just stole my heart. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was, but I immediately pictured my kids playing here, hosting people by the pool. In other homes, as beautiful as they were, I just couldn’t see those moments. Even before Sosa arrived, I could already imagine what she would look like in this home.”

The reality star was able to move right in and didn’t need to do much except for decorate.

The Kitchen

One of Kent’s favorite features of the home the open floor plan with a brand-new chef’s kitchen. “Older homes tend to have kitchens tucked away because, back then, no one wanted to see where the food was made. But I wanted everything in one space—where people naturally gather, watch the game, and just be together.”

She also appreciated the bold black paint, warm wood cabinets, and stylish light fixtures. “Because I’m used to my old house [the one shared with Ocean’s father], it was the white cabinets with the grays, and it just felt very… dated. Maybe this will be dated too, but there was something about it.”

The Living Room

Adjacent to the kitchen is the large living room. Flooded with light from the floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that lead out to the pool, hot tub, and guest house, it features a stone wall with a fireplace (which Kent tells me is Ocean’s favorite feature of the home) and open shelves. On top of one of the shelves sits a stone urn with her beloved father’s ashes. Because it blends in almost seamlessly, the Bravo star took it as a sign she moved to the right place.

The large L-shaped sectional is from Ashley Home Furniture because Kent didn’t want to spend a lot of money on furniture with such young children. However, the neutral color coordinates well with the rest of the home and helps to create a calm atmosphere despite the chaos and clutter that simply comes with the territory of having young kids. That said, the fact that there’s also a playroom upstairs probably helps her keep the more adult areas of the home tidy.

There are a variety of other accessories, including plants and decor, that Kent shares are from TJ Maxx. “I’m a Maxxinista,” she confesses.

After several challenging years, she simply wanted her home to feel like a refuge, curated with things that might not necessarily be high design but truly feel meaningful to her. From a black-and-white animal photos purchased at an auction for the Brent Shapiro Foundation (a drug abuse prevention organization the sober Kent feels very passionate about) to the Bravo 2023 Greatest Shade Thrower Award sitting on the piano—it’s fair to say the homeowner is very selective.

The Piano Room

Another notable spot in the home is an area with a gorgeous piano that Kent has had for most of her life. “My dad got this for me when I was in the fifth grade and started taking piano lessons. They wanted to get me an upright, but I was told them, ‘I don’t want an upright piano!’ That goes against the wall.”

She opens the bench to reveal sheet music that had been there since before she was in high school, along with a sewing project she made as a child. The warmth and happiness of the space clearly reflect the vibe of the home she was raised in.

Primary Bedroom

Like the rest of the home, Kent’s primary bedroom, which has an en-suite bathroom, was renovated when she moved in. However, there was some minor work done in the room, including closing off a bedroom window that faced her neighbor’s home and cutting an additional window to face the backyard.

The room was decorated by interior designer Megan Weaver from Bravo’s Flipping Out. It was a collaborative effort. “She would send me images, and I’d say yes or no. I’m not a color person at all. Megan originally wanted to wallpaper this wall, and I said, no wallpaper. She wanted to bring in some blush tones, and I said, No, I’m not a pink person. I’m not a color person. The most color I want is maybe a taupe or a chocolate brown.”

Featuring a ladyfinger bed and a shiplap wall, It feels more calm than mom. It’s not girly so much as grownup. While it’s a place she could easily bring a guest, she currently shares it with Sosa, whose bassinet sits beside her bed.

What’s Next For Kent

Like any parent of young children, Lala spends a lot of time at home, but she does step out to record her podcast, Give Them Lala. On the podcast, she delves into topics including relationships, sex, betrayal, mental health, business, and her personal life. She records one episode every week plus a bonus episode.

Kent also hosts a show on Amazon called Mama’s Still Got It where she shares her favorite Amazon finds from fashion to baby products and home. She also features special guests on occasion including Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Schwartz, The Valley’s Michelle Lally, and podcaster Heather McDonald.

But beyond her business endeavors, Lala is thrilled to have finally found her comfort zone and has created a life for her family. “This home has become the heart of our family. It was meant to be.”
