Renowned artist, designer, and Forbes Next 1000 honoree, Elizabeth Sutton has mastered the art of licensing her work while cultivating a career as a celebrated fine artist. Now, Sutton is setting the table—literally—with the launch of her highly anticipated dinnerware collection, a project eight years in the making. For Sutton, timing is everything, and her latest venture reflects her knack for blending artistry with functionality.
Here’s what you need to know about the artist’s latest launch and what makes these future heirlooms a true must-have for any home.
Bringing Art to the Table
Sutton’s dinnerware collection features ten unique patterns, including some of her signature designs such as Grayscale Roses, Pura Vida, and bold geometric abstractions. “Each design reflects a balance of classic elegance and bold, fashion-forward style, creating a perfectly curated aesthetic,” Sutton shares. “My ultimate goal was to make this collection feel like art for your table—functional and durable dinnerware that brings beauty and happiness to every meal.”
The collection includes salad plates, dinner plates, and bowls, along with coordinated wrinkle-free napkins and placemats—a complete solution for an elevated dining experience.
Her approach to the collection is rooted in generative design. “I selected a blend of timeless black-and-white patterns alongside more playful, vibrant designs,” she adds.
Melamine with a Fine China Aesthetic
One of the standout features of Sutton’s dinnerware collection is her use of melamine, a durable material typically associated with casual dining. Known for her focus on stylish yet functional design, Sutton aimed to create elevated pieces that resemble fine bone china while remaining practical. This choice was entirely intentional.
“As someone who loves hosting but also has young children and a busy schedule, I often found myself setting tables with a mix of fine china and the highest-end, most beautiful plastic. No matter how much I spent on the plastic pieces, which ended up being very costly, the table always looked disjointed and inconsistent,” explains the artists. “It especially bothered me when taking photos and creating content—it just didn’t feel cohesive. Plus, I always dreaded the clean-up after the dinner party because my fine china isn’t dishwasher safe.”
With that in mind, Sutton’s collection was designed to be child-friendly and dishwasher-safe, all while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic. “I designed custom molds for this collection based on the shape of fine bone china to give it an elevated look, making it perfect for both everyday use and special occasions. Melamine was the ideal material to achieve this balance—it’s durable, practical, and stylish.”
Additionally, the collection’s versatility makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor dining, offering an elegant solution for alfresco meals and backyard gatherings.
Mix-and-Match Made Easy
Understanding that not everyone has a designer’s eye for mixing patterns, Sutton curated sixteen cohesive mix-and-match collections within the line. “I wanted to take the guesswork out of the process,” she explains. “For those who prefer simplicity, we offer single-pattern sets. But for anyone who wants to experiment, you can pair any pattern with any other, and it will all work beautifully together.”
This intuitive mix-and-match system is a hallmark of Sutton’s collection. “With the exception of the Auburn Bouquet, which ties back to black-and-white, Pura Vida, and other watercolor styles, every pattern seamlessly complements the others. The mixing and matching is completely foolproof.”
Your Next Heirloom
Beyond its artistic appeal, Sutton’s dinnerware collection is designed to feel personal—like a modern heirloom. “That’s the beauty of it,” she explains. “Each person has their own unique taste. Some may prefer to stick to one pattern, while others will love creating a mix-and-match look. This versatility allows everyone to design a combination that reflects their personality and style, making every table setting as unique as the person creating it.”
In addition to being available on Sutton’s home collection website, it is sold at select home décor boutiques nationwide including Imperial China, On The Table NJ, and Prima Central.
