On April 2, 2025—a date President Trump proclaimed “Liberation Day”—the administration announced the most sweeping tariff hike since the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, the 1930 law best remembered for triggering a global trade war and deepening the Great Depression. On April 4, Boeing’s stock price hit $136.59. It closed Friday, June 6th at $210.86, a whopping 54% return in just two months. What has become known as the TACO trade—TACO stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out”—has earned the president the Wall Street nickname “DJ Taco.” When Trump assumed the presidency for the second time, investors expected unprecedented investment opportunities driven by…

According to NextEarningsDate.com, the Adobe next earnings date is projected to be 6/12 after the close, with earnings estimates of $4.97/share on $5.80 Billion of revenue. Looking back, the recent Adobe earnings history looks like this: The company has an impressive long-term earnings per share chart: And with equally impressive revenue growth: But earnings reports can often uniquely bring abrupt volatility to a stock, in either direction, as investors digest the fundamental details. And that volatility can be a stock options trader’s dream come true — so such traders will be interested to know that Adobe has options available that…
Week in Review Asian equities were mostly higher for the week as Korea outperformed and Thailand underperformed in a shortened week for Mainland China’s markets due to the market holiday celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival on Monday. Markets cheered the first phone conversation between Trump and Xi on Thursday, during which the two leaders were said to discuss technology restrictions, rare earth exports, and giving the go-ahead to negotiators to hammer out a deal. China reported mixed economic indicators for May as services sectors fared better than manufacturing, according to both the official purchasing managers’ indexes (PMIs) and the private…
Key News Asian equities were positive overnight, led by Hong Kong and South Korea, while Japan underperformed, as Trump and Xi are said to have held a phone call. Helping sentiment was May’s Caixin Services PMI, which increased month over month to 51.1 from 50.7, beating expectations of 51.0. Hong Kong and Mainland China were led higher by growth and technology stocks following a speech from a senior official of the CSRC, China’s SEC, affirming strong support for the science and technology sector in the capital markets. This follows a similar message from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology…
The U.S. stock market is close to a record high as the summer begins, but it’s been a topsy-turvy ride to get there. When Donald Trump began imposing or threatening heavy tariffs in February and doubled down on “Liberation Day” on April 2, the S&P 500 index fell as much as 19%. It has since recovered most of those losses while Trump’s stance has softened for now. Volatility creates opportunity, and Forbes again convened dozens of investors and business leaders for the fourth annual Forbes Iconoclast Summit at Cipriani Wall Street on Thursday. Billionaires Ken Griffin, Bill Ackman, Larry Fink,…
Global gold-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) endured their first outflow for five months in May as demand for riskier assets improved, latest World Gold Council (WGC) data shows. Total outflows came in at 19 tonnes and had a value of $1.8 billion, the body said. This pulled total physical holdings down to 3,541 tonnes. The WGC said that “North America took the largest hit, and Asia reversed the strong momentum it experienced in April.” It added that “funds in other regions experienced a small loss for the first time in six months,” though mind inflows into European funds continued. Depressed further…
Question: Why are there so many mutual funds? Answer: Mutual fund management is profitable, so Wall Street creates more products to sell. The large number of mutual funds has little to do with serving your best interests as an investor. I leverage this data to identify two red flags you can use to avoid the worst mutual funds: 1. High Fees Mutual funds should be cheap, but not all of them are. The first step is to benchmark what cheap means. To ensure you are paying at or below average fees, invest only in mutual funds with total annual costs…
Big companies are about to make even more money. They have discovered they no longer need armies of new hires to grow—extremely bullish news for shareholders because human employees are expensive. Good ones can also be notoriously elusive. For example, I’m the longest-standing member of my kids’ school marketing committee, and we’re always scrambling for volunteers (what non-profit isn’t?). Until now, that is. Over the weekend, we welcomed the most talented marketer I’ve ever worked with to our team: ChatGPT 4.5. “GPT” graciously accepted our volunteer position, and we’re already actively boosting online referrals for the school. I’m learning cutting-edge…
I originally put Freshpet Inc. (FRPT) in the Danger Zone on February 2, 2022 and most recently reiterated my bearish opinion on the stock in October 17, 2022. Despite falling 45% YTD, I’m here to remind you: this stock remains dangerous. Freshpet’s stock could fall further based on: persistently high operating costs, large cash burn, lagging market share, more profitable competitors, and a stock valuation that implies Freshpet will grow its market share 7x while also growing profits to levels never seen before. Figure 1: Freshpet Outperformance as a Short From 2/3/22 Through 5/9/25 What’s Working Freshpet has successfully grown…
